About the role

The Underwriter will assess and underwrite borrowing requests for commercial mortgages and investment loans in line with the Bank's credit policy. This role manages the end-to-end application process, ensuring loans are appropriately documented and secured while maintaining strong relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders. The position is critical to managing credit risk and delivering on the Bank's objectives within the Commercial Mortgages function.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and underwrite direct credit loan applications within personal discretion in line with regulatory requirements and credit policies.
  • Produce clear, accurate written documentation and make recommendations to the Credit team for applications outside of personal discretion.
  • Manage the end-to-end application process from initial enquiry to completion, liaising with panel solicitors and ensuring security.
  • Manage a portfolio of advances according to defined arrears and collections policies.
  • Liaise with applicants, brokers, and valuers to gather information for credit decisioning.
  • Monitor agreed controls to ensure risk and customer requirements are met, escalating concerns immediately.
  • Deliver excellent service to customers, brokers, and Relationship Managers in line with Bank values.
