Underwriter - Commercial Mortgages

About the role

The Underwriter will assess and underwrite borrowing requests for commercial mortgages in line with the Bank's credit policy and asset portfolio. This role is responsible for managing the end-to-end application process, ensuring loans are appropriately documented and secured, and maintaining strong relationships with customers, brokers, and internal stakeholders. The position sits within the risk function and contributes to the safe delivery of the Bank's commercial mortgage objectives.

Responsibilities

• Assess and underwrite direct credit loan applications within personal discretion in line with regulatory requirements and credit policies.
• Produce clear, accurate written documentation and make recommendations to the Credit team for applications outside of personal discretion.
• Manage the end-to-end application process from initial enquiry to completion, including liaison with panel solicitors.
• Manage a portfolio of advances according to defined arrears and collections policies.
• Liaise with applicants, brokers, and valuers to gather information for credit decisioning.
• Monitor agreed controls to ensure risk and customer requirements are met and escalate concerns immediately.
• Help develop management information and key performance indicators to track mortgage processing pipelines.
