About the role
1Password is seeking a Principal Engineer to define the technical direction for core product experiences. This senior individual contributor role involves driving architecture, engineering standards, and technical strategy across the product ecosystem to build secure, scalable, and maintainable systems. You will provide organization-level leadership, balancing product velocity with engineering durability while guiding the integration of AI capabilities into core products.
Responsibilities
- Define architecture and technical direction for core product capabilities spanning clients, distributed services, data platforms, and shared infrastructure.
- Establish engineering standards and reusable architectural patterns for scalable, maintainable, and resilient product systems.
- Drive long-term technical strategy across critical product areas, balancing immediate delivery needs with operational excellence.
- Partner with Product, Design, Security, Privacy, Infrastructure, and Data teams to ensure technical decisions support customer outcomes.
- Guide the integration of AI-powered capabilities into customer-facing product experiences to ensure reliability and safety.
- Influence architectural decisions around distributed systems design, event-driven architectures, and platform interoperability.
- Mentor and influence engineers across the organization through technical leadership, architecture reviews, and design guidance.
