Software Development Engineer III, Maps API

About the role

The Maps API team builds and maintains the infrastructure responsible for creating and distributing Mapbox maps. As a Software Development Engineer III, you will balance rapid development of new mapping tools with the reliability of services as they scale to meet global demand. You will lead engineering tasks, design scalable systems, and mentor peers to foster technical excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead your engineering team to identify and scope out well-defined tasks.
• Execute on the scope and be accountable for delivering on time with quality.
• Design systems and make architectural decisions that will keep pace with the rapid growth of Mapbox’s customer base.
• Mentor your peers through 1:1s, facilitating design and code reviews, and providing continuous guidance.
• Promote a culture of operational excellence by testing and monitoring systems, writing documentation, and being on-call.
• Reduce technical debt and optimize application performance.
