Senior Software Engineer, Backend - Distributed Systems

About the role

Camunda is an enterprise platform for agentic orchestration that enables organizations to coordinate AI agents, people, and systems across complex business processes. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Distributed Systems team, you will help evolve the durable, highly available, and horizontally scalable streaming platform that powers Camunda 8. You will work on technically challenging projects involving multi-Raft implementations, cluster membership algorithms, and high-performance network and disk I/O pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for the distributed streaming platform to ensure durability, high availability, and scalability.
• Lead medium-to-large engineering initiatives end-to-end by translating business problems into technical requirements and driving delivery.
• Mature disaster recovery and resilience capabilities, including implementing backup/restore APIs and multi-region support.
• Design and implement developer and operator tooling to improve the observability and manageability of distributed systems.
• Collaborate with DevOps and Core Application teams to optimize CI, testing, and local development workflows.
• Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations to investigate and resolve complex production issues.
