Staff AI Engineer

About the role

Acquia is seeking a Staff AI Engineer to build retrieval, graph, and inference layers on top of their data platform. This hands-on role involves designing and shipping production systems that turn data signals into actionable workflows for customers and internal teams. You will work across observability, data platforms, and intelligence, focusing on building shared capabilities that drive company priorities.

Responsibilities

• Write and ship production AI code daily.
• Lead work on making customer context retrievable at speed using semantic retrieval, indexing, and knowledge graph approaches.
• Build the inference and signal layer, including models and processors that read from the Iceberg-based lakehouse.
• Turn detected conditions into automated workflows with human review where appropriate.
• Choose the right tools for each workload, including large models, fine-tuned models, or deterministic code, while managing inference costs.
• Own evaluation and observability for AI systems to ensure signal quality before deployment.
• Set patterns for other teams and collaborate with leaders to turn company goals into shipped systems.
