Technical Lead, Data Platform Engineer

About the role

The Data Platform team builds and runs the platform that all Funding Circle data teams use, including Snowflake infrastructure, streaming and batch ingestion, and orchestration. This role will lead the technical direction of the platform, turning target architecture into a clear engineering plan while mentoring the team. You will own technical quality, operational excellence, and security governance while facilitating the migration to a federated Data as a Product model.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical direction of the Data Platform and turn target architecture into a sequenced engineering plan.
• Own the technical quality of the platform including Snowflake infrastructure, RBAC, ingestion patterns, orchestration, CI/CD, and observability.
• Manage the decision-document process and make final technical calls for the team.
• Mentor engineers and set a review culture that is fast and deep.
• Define standards and reusable patterns to support domain teams, Data Scientists, and Analysts.
• Lead the platform migration from Athena to Snowflake including source landing, reconciliation, and decommissioning of legacy systems.
• Own operational excellence including on-call quality, incident follow-ups, and disaster recovery.
• Manage technical relationships with platform vendors and explain trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.

• 8+ years in Data & Analytics
