Senior Systems Software Engineer

About the role

The Senior Systems Software Engineer will join the core team building a Quantum Key Distribution system. This role focuses on high-performance Python services on Linux, algorithm optimization, and hardware integration. The engineer will lead software architecture, define APIs, and ensure reliable, observable software delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead and co-own the QKD software architecture including control plane services, integration, and monitoring.
• Define module boundaries and service APIs while evolving the system toward clear data and control-plane separation.
• Design and implement high-performance Python services using asyncio, WebSockets, and NumPy.
• Develop and optimize QKD sifting and postprocessing algorithms to maximize key rate and minimize latency.
• Maintain interfaces with embedded and FPGA components over UART, USB, PCIe, or Ethernet.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with Docker and GitHub Actions.
• Establish observability through structured logging, metrics, and tracing.

Qualifications
