Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

The Data Serving team is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to own the production-grade boundary between Pleo's raw product data and its consumers. You will build and maintain APIs and low-latency serving layers, ensuring contract stability and performance for internal teams, AI agents, and customers. This role requires a hands-on engineer to design scalable infrastructure and bridge the gap between data systems and product backend services.

Responsibilities

• Build and own the Data API boundary, delivering clean, versioned, and performant endpoints.
• Design and optimise read models, indexes, and caching strategies in Postgres to guarantee low-latency performance.
• Build reliable integrations with Kotlin-based product backend services.
• Own the reliability, performance, monitoring, and incident response for the services you build.
• Partner with Data Engineers to define clean contracts between ingestion layers and serving databases.
• Partner with the Authorization team to secure APIs using industry-standard protocols.
• Build a near-real-time data aggregation service to unify data across Pleo services.
• Design metadata, lineage, and governance capabilities to ensure the serving layer is auditable and trustworthy.
