Principal Infrastructure Engineer

About the role

Sezzle is seeking a Principal Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, operate, and scale the platform that powers their fintech services. You will own complex technical initiatives from architecture through production rollout, focusing on increasing throughput, reducing latency, and strengthening system resilience. This role requires deep expertise in AWS, Kubernetes, and relational databases to solve high-impact infrastructure challenges while driving automation and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture and evolution of core infrastructure to support increasing traffic and complexity.
• Connect business understanding to system improvements, partnering across teams to enhance performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Engineer for scale by building capacity models, running load tests, and diagnosing bottlenecks across compute, networking, and databases.
• Design and build resilient AWS infrastructure, including account, IAM, and network architectures.
• Build and operate the Kubernetes platform, focusing on cluster lifecycle, autoscaling, and deployment reliability.
• Scale and optimize Aurora RDS for MySQL and Postgres through query tuning, indexing, and capacity planning.
• Improve reliability by defining service-level objectives and implementing failure isolation and load shedding.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead technical recovery during serious incidents using evidence-based triage.
