Engineering Manager, Machine Learning (Safety)

About the role

Discord is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the Safety ML team in protecting over 200 million users. You will oversee the development of real-time and batch machine learning systems designed to detect platform abuse and ensure user safety. This role involves driving technical strategy, managing a team of engineers, and collaborating across departments to scale safety operations.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a team of ML engineers through hiring, coaching, and fostering ownership.
• Drive the technical vision and roadmap for Safety ML in collaboration with Trust & Safety, Product, and Data Science partners.
• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of production safety models, including defining capabilities and monitoring operational health.
• Manage processes to ensure the team delivers high-quality results and continuously improves engineering standards.
• Partner with Trust & Safety teams to improve label quality and automate manual investigations.

Qualifications
