Engineering Manager, Machine Learning (Safety)

About the role

Discord is seeking a highly technical and mission-driven Engineering Manager to lead the Safety ML team. This role involves owning the detection systems that protect millions of users from platform abuse, including real-time and batch models for content understanding and account integrity. The manager will lead a team of ML engineers to drive technical vision, roadmap execution, and the end-to-end lifecycle of production safety models.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a team of ML engineers through hiring, coaching, and fostering ownership.
• Drive the technical vision and roadmap for Safety ML in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of production safety models, including defining capabilities and monitoring operational health.
• Manage processes to ensure the team delivers high-quality results.
• Partner with Trust & Safety teams on label quality and automating manual investigations.
• Collaborate with other Engineering Managers to improve the engineering organization.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer, Data Scientist, or Applied Scientist
