Design engineer

About the role

Design engineers sit at the intersection of design and engineering, owning the Writer Design System to ensure it is optimized for both humans and AI agents. You will build production-quality UI components, architect new primitives, and uphold high standards for front-end craft and accessibility. This role involves partnering with designers, product managers, and engineering leads to streamline the design-to-code workflow and drive system adoption across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Own the Writer Design System as your primary domain, ensuring it is optimized for both humans and AI agents.
• Design and build production-quality UI components and features from sketch to ship.
• Ship design-led work including polish passes, micro-interactions, and brand moments.
• Architect new primitives and extend core components while keeping documentation and libraries in sync.
• Uphold front-end craft standards across accessibility, motion, and quality.
• Research and implement tools to unlock productivity and democratize workflows across the EPD organization.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to measure system adoption and ensure features meet design standards.
