About the role

Laelaps is seeking a simulation engineer to lead the development of digital twins for autonomous security robots. You will build pipelines to convert lidar maps into simulation environments, enabling the training and testing of multi-robot patrol policies and sensor performance. This role involves working closely with orchestration and reliability engineers to ensure that learned skills transfer effectively from simulation to real-world deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop pipelines to convert lidar maps into simulation-ready digital twins including geometry, semantics, materials, and sensors.
  • Create reinforcement learning environments for skills such as multi-robot patrol and search.
  • Generate rare event scenarios including intrusions, sabotage, weather, and sensor failures.
  • Implement realistic sensor simulation for RGB, thermal, and lidar data.
  • Measure and minimize the sim-to-real gap on actual robot deployments.
  • Scale simulation infrastructure to run many parallel environments on GPUs.
