Senior Backend Engineer - Backend Platform

About the role

Close is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our new Backend Platforms team. You will build foundational tools, AI-powered development environments, and paved-road infrastructure to improve the productivity and code quality of our product engineering teams. This role offers significant influence over the team's direction and technical strategy as we scale our AI-integrated CRM platform.

Responsibilities

• Expand DevDawg and Spice cloud development environments and automated review tooling.
• Build paved roads for the API layer including REST blueprints, GraphQL schema, and auth plumbing.
• Modernize the backend framework layer and manage migration paths for web and async compute frameworks.
• Own observability, metrics, and alerting standards to ensure production readiness.
• Ship shared backend services and primitives such as eventing patterns and database-change safety.
• Set guardrails for coding agents to ensure safe code merging at volume.
