About the role
Voodoo is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join a newly established internal studio focused on scaling the turn-based multiplayer game Draft Showdown. You will design and build the server-side foundation to transition the game from client-authoritative to server-validated, ensuring competitive integrity. This role involves working closely with client developers and game designers to implement server-side logic for game state, matchmaking, and cheat detection.
Responsibilities
- Build server-side validation for the metagame including currency, card upgrades, and progression.
- Move toward server authority for competitive features to ensure game state is trusted.
- Implement and improve matchmaking and cheat detection safeguards for a deterministic lockstep PvP architecture.
- Design APIs and player-state management for integration with the Unity client.
- Collaborate with the wider backend team to contribute to and leverage Voodoo's shared gaming platform.
