About the role

The Data Scientist will apply machine learning and advanced analytical techniques to complex challenges within the electromagnetic environment. Working in the Decision Science Laboratory, the role involves designing, testing, and deploying ML-enabled capabilities for electromagnetic sensing and exploitation. The successful candidate will bridge the gap between research, experimentation, and operational delivery to solve Defence and Aerospace problems.

Responsibilities

  • Translate operational requirements into technical solutions across decision science, electromagnetic simulation, and engineering.
  • Apply machine learning and RF-aware analytical techniques to spectrum classification, emitter detection, and signal characterisation.
  • Develop modern approaches for electromagnetic sensing including CNNs, transformers, and probabilistic models.
  • Design and conduct experiments to assess new algorithms and techniques.
  • Develop proof-of-concept capabilities and support deployment into operational environments.
  • Liaise with forward-deployed teammates to understand real-world constraints and user needs.
  • Build reliable analytical workflows using MLOps and cloud-based practices.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical users through reports and briefings.

Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral degree in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related STEM discipline
  • Master’s degree with equivalent professional experience
