Senior Database Engineer

About the role

Spreedly is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to serve as the primary database expert within our Reliability team. You will be responsible for improving the performance, reliability, and operational practices of our distributed database environment. This role involves collaborating with application and infrastructure teams to optimize queries, manage schema changes, and ensure high availability for our payments platform.

Responsibilities

• Improve database performance by identifying bottlenecks, optimizing slow-running queries, and refining indexes.
• Diagnose distributed-database issues such as transaction contention and inefficient access patterns.
• Provide subject-matter expertise during design reviews to guide schema design, indexing, and transaction boundaries.
• Develop safer migration procedures and documentation to enable application teams to evolve data models independently.
• Improve database observability and monitoring for latency, retries, and capacity planning.
• Partner with infrastructure and application engineers to mentor them on database troubleshooting and distributed-database concepts.
