Staff Software Engineer

About the role

Medallia is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Platform team, which builds and operates critical backend services for survey execution, distribution, and data processing. You will design and deliver scalable, high-availability systems while mentoring senior engineers and driving cross-team architectural decisions. This role focuses on solving complex distributed systems problems and evolving the platform on a modern, cloud-native stack.

Responsibilities

• Drive resolution on open, cross-cutting architectural questions and document defensible decisions.
• Own the integrity of the platform's core data invariants across teams, including multi-tenant isolation.
• Design pipeline and schema evolution patterns to support cross-team development without downtime.
• Lead technical design for major cross-team initiatives and evaluate build-vs-buy and store-selection decisions.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers on distributed systems design and data modeling.
• Represent engineering in architecture and design reviews and author core architecture documentation.
• Build high-leverage components of cross-cutting initiatives and improve platform reliability, observability, and incident response.
