About the role
Notabene is seeking a Controller to own the financial close, accounting policy, and the company's first external financial statement audit. You will be the most senior accounting voice in the organization, reporting to the VP of Finance and managing a small team and external providers. The role focuses on building scalable systems, automating manual processes, and ensuring rigorous documentation for a complex, multi-currency business.
Responsibilities
- Lead the audit readiness assessment, remediation planning, and day-to-day auditor relationship.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across multiple legal entities, including consolidations and FX translation.
- Author technical accounting positions and memos for revenue recognition, software capitalization, and stock compensation.
- Oversee revenue and billing systems, ensuring data integrity and proper integration with the general ledger.
- Design and implement internal controls over revenue, cash, procurement, and payroll.
- Evaluate and implement accounting automation to replace manual, high-volume tasks.

Qualifications
- Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager at a venture-backed company
- Track record of taking a company through a first external audit
- Experience with month-end close across two or more legal entities in different currencies
- Experience developing a small team or a single direct report
