About the role

Carwow is seeking a Senior Privacy Counsel to serve as the company's first dedicated in-house privacy lawyer and operational privacy lead. This role involves developing and maintaining the enterprise privacy governance framework while partnering with product, engineering, and commercial teams to enable business growth with integrity. The successful candidate will act as a strategic advisor, managing privacy risks and operationalizing compliance in a high-growth, data-driven marketplace environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own, develop and maintain Carwow’s enterprise privacy governance framework, encompassing internal policies, ROPAs, privacy notices, risk registers, retention schedules and associated controls.
  • Act as Carwow’s principal in-house legal advisor on privacy and data protection matters, providing pragmatic, risk-based legal advice to senior management and cross-functional teams.
  • Lead the privacy aspects of data breach and incident response, working cross-functionally to investigate incidents and determine notification obligations.
  • Draft, review and negotiate DPAs, DSAs and other data protection provisions and agreements arising from commercial arrangements.
  • Own and continuously improve processes for responding to data subject rights requests.
  • Provide legal and operational privacy support on new commercial propositions, including those involving third-party audience targeting and advertising.
  • Work closely with Data, IT, Engineering and Product teams to embed Privacy by Design and lead privacy assessments.
  • Provide privacy legal support on M&A, funding and other corporate transactions, including conducting privacy due diligence.
