Staff Data Engineer

About the role

MoonPay is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to provide technical leadership and shape the long-term direction of their data platform. You will lead the design and evolution of systems powering analytics, product insights, and machine learning while balancing architecture, reliability, and scalability. This role requires a hands-on leader who can move between high-level architectural decisions and direct implementation to support a high-velocity, regulated environment.

Responsibilities

• Set and evolve the technical direction of the data platform across streaming, batch processing, warehousing, and orchestration.
• Lead the design and delivery of complex, cross-team initiatives from architectural planning to implementation.
• Build core platform capabilities including real-time pipelines, shared tooling, and scalable data infrastructure.
• Establish and champion golden paths that enable teams to build securely and efficiently.
• Improve platform reliability, performance, and cost efficiency as data volumes grow.
• Partner with Security, Compliance, and Product teams to ensure systems meet operational and regulatory requirements.
• Mentor senior engineers and strengthen engineering standards through design and code reviews.
