Senior Software Engineering Manager, Managed Gateways SREs

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineering Manager for Managed Gateways SREs, you will lead the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of Kong's critical managed services. You will build and mentor a high-performing team of Site Reliability Engineers while remaining hands-on with critical implementations and reliability work in the early stages. Your work will ensure 99.99%+ uptime and seamless performance for enterprise customers globally.

Responsibilities

• Build the Managed Gateways SRE team from the ground up, including hiring and setting performance standards.
• Act as a direct contributor to critical implementations and reliability work.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Site Reliability Engineers supporting enterprise customers.
• Architect and implement robust, scalable, and fault-tolerant cloud-native systems.
• Own the end-to-end operational lifecycle, including monitoring, incident response, and post-mortems.
• Drive operational efficiency through automation, self-service tooling, and streamlined workflows.
• Define, track, and report on key SLOs and SLIs to ensure service resilience.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, engineering, and support teams to influence roadmaps.
