Senior Software Engineer, Backend - Distributed Systems

About the role

Camunda is an enterprise platform for agentic orchestration that enables organizations to coordinate AI agents, people, and systems across complex business processes. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Distributed Systems team, you will help evolve the durable, highly available, and horizontally scalable streaming platform that underpins Camunda 8. You will work on technically challenging projects while partnering with cross-functional teams to influence the platform's evolution.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for the distributed streaming platform ensuring durability and scalability.
• Lead medium-to-large engineering initiatives end-to-end, from technical requirements to delivery.
• Mature disaster recovery and resilience capabilities, including backup/restore APIs and multi-region support.
• Design and implement developer and operator tooling to improve system observability and troubleshooting.
• Improve engineering effectiveness by collaborating on CI, testing, and local development workflows.
• Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations to resolve complex production issues.
