Senior AI Engineer, Location AI

About the role

Mapbox is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to own the technical design and delivery of multi-component AI systems across various product areas. You will define product behavior, build evaluation systems for non-deterministic outputs, and manage data pipelines to ensure high-quality, scalable solutions. This role requires working across teams to solve high-priority AI challenges while balancing technical perfection with shipping useful increments.

Responsibilities

• Define product functionality, build measurement frameworks, and develop evaluation systems for non-deterministic behavior.
• Formulate hypotheses, validate them with data, and gate changes based on regression results.
• Build and maintain data pipelines including ingestion, conflation, entity resolution, and quality checks.
• Design feedback loops and instrument systems to improve product performance based on real-world usage.
• Manage model harnesses, tool calling, and system boundaries to optimize for latency and cost.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 system availability.
