Data Scientist

About the role

Octopus Energy Trading is seeking a data scientist to join their team to help reshape the future of energy. The role involves building data pipelines and forecasting models to support the GB intraday power market, with a focus on demand, renewables, and transmission system fundamentals. You will work within a collaborative, tech-first environment to drive the transition to a Net Zero world.

Responsibilities

• Exploring the types of data needed to effectively trade the GB intraday power market
• Building, improving and maintaining models to forecast electricity demand and renewable generation
• Finding high quality, novel data sources to base forecasts off of
• Development on forecasting framework and tools
• Maintaining and automating forecasting processes, whilst building in checks and alerting
• Utilising forecasting models to build or enhance price forecasts
• Collaborating with Trading, Renewables, Flexibility and other teams to utilise combined knowledge and data
• Developing software and front end systems within the team
