Senior Safety Engineer - Loitering Munition Systems

About the role

The Safety Engineer will define, implement, and verify the safety of advanced Loitering Munition systems throughout their lifecycle. This role ensures compliance with national and international military and civil aviation standards, covering both product safety for NATO customers and occupational safety in operations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, establish, and execute the System Safety Program (SSP) in accordance with MIL-STD-882E and AOP-52 standards.
• Conduct and manage formal safety analyses, including PHA, SSHA, SHA, O&SHA, and FMEA/FMEDA for hardware and software.
• Implement and verify functional safety requirements for electrical, electronic, and programmable electronic systems using IEC 61508 methodology.
• Prepare and manage safety-related documentation, including Safety Cases, Safety Assessment Reports, and Safety Justifications.
• Maintain awareness of EASA civil aviation safety standards regarding UAS and operational safety in controlled airspace.
• Translate customer and statutory safety requirements into verifiable system and subsystem requirements.
• Participate in design reviews, test readiness reviews, and acceptance boards as the safety Subject Matter Expert.
• Support the company's OHS program, ensuring compliance with German Occupational Safety Law and regulations for handling ordnance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Safety Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable technical field
