Lead Systems Engineer

About the role

The Lead Systems Engineer will act as the Systems Technical Authority for an orbital rocket programme, maintaining a coherent technical view of the complete vehicle. This role involves leading the definition, management, and resolution of system interfaces while coordinating multidisciplinary teams across avionics, software, structures, propulsion, and GNC. The successful candidate will use model-based systems engineering to manage interdependencies and ensure successful vehicle integration and launch.

Responsibilities

• Act as the Systems Technical Authority for the orbital rocket programme, providing vehicle-level systems leadership and maintaining technical coherence across the complete vehicle.
• Lead the definition, ownership, and resolution of system interfaces across avionics, software, structures, propulsion, GNC, and other technical departments.
• Identify and manage interdependencies, assumptions, constraints, and cross-subsystem impacts as the vehicle design develops.
• Use MBSE models and related system artefacts to maintain a connected view of vehicle architecture, requirements, and interfaces.
• Lead cross-disciplinary systems discussions and reviews, bringing forward system-level trade-offs, resolving technical conflicts, and ensuring decisions are clearly recorded.
• Coordinate technical departments around vehicle-level priorities and help keep subsystem work aligned with the needs of the overall programme.
• Track system-level issues and interface actions through to resolution, helping establish the conditions for successful vehicle integration and launch.
