About the role
Proxima Fusion is seeking a skilled technician to support the build, assembly, integration, and testing of complex, first-of-a-kind hardware for stellarator fusion power plants. You will work hands-on with components, magnets, and mechanical assemblies, collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams to turn ambitious designs into reliable hardware. This role involves solving practical shop-floor challenges and developing the processes and tooling required for the Alpha programme.
Responsibilities
- Build, assemble and modify prototypes, experimental hardware, custom tooling and development rigs.
- Turn engineering drawings, models, and sketches into practical hardware.
- Fabricate and adapt components using fitting, cutting, drilling, soldering, bonding and assembly techniques.
- Identify buildability issues early and provide practical feedback to the design team.
- Prepare and run development trials, including winding, joining, insulation and impregnation.
- Install instrumentation, commission rigs, take measurements and record findings.
- Organise the practical delivery of assigned projects, including sourcing small parts and maintaining the workshop.
- Transfer proven prototypes and methods to manufacturing through work instructions and technical handovers.
