About the role

Proton is seeking a Software Engineer to build the Proton Drive Linux desktop client from scratch. This greenfield project involves creating a native application that integrates with the Proton Drive SDK and CLI tooling while ensuring feature parity with existing Windows and Mac clients. You will work in an open-source environment, contributing to a platform that protects user privacy globally.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and implementation of the Proton Drive Linux desktop client from the ground up.
  • Integrate deeply with Linux-specific system components and the file synchronization engine.
  • Contribute to the platform-agnostic SDK and CLI tooling for cross-client use.
  • Build and maintain cross-client automated and end-to-end tests.
  • Define and implement application telemetry for performance analysis and debugging.
  • Manage build pipelines, packaging, and distribution across major Linux distributions.
