Applied AI Engineer, Codex

About the role

The Applied AI Engineering team helps organizations turn frontier AI capabilities into safe, reliable, and high-impact production systems. As an Applied AI Engineer, you will partner with leading engineering organizations to design, build, and deploy AI systems that transform software development workflows. You will combine technical judgment and hands-on engineering to take ideas from prototyping through to production rollout and scaled adoption.

Responsibilities

• Partner with engineering leaders and developers to identify high-value opportunities for Codex and translate them into technical architectures and implementation plans.
• Design, build, and deploy AI-powered software development workflows that improve how teams plan, write, test, review, debug, and deliver software.
• Work hands-on in code to build prototypes, evaluation harnesses, reference implementations, and production accelerators.
• Help customers progress from experiments to reliable production workflows and sustained developer adoption.
• Design systematic approaches for evaluating AI coding systems using representative tasks, automated graders, and developer feedback.
• Make technical decisions across models, agents, tools, developer environments, security, and operational readiness.
• Lead technical deep dives, workshops, and enablement sessions to help teams adopt AI coding workflows effectively.
• Gather insights from deployments to provide product and model feedback to internal OpenAI teams.
