About the role
Legal Services NYC is seeking an intake paralegal to staff the Access Line, the agency's citywide intake hotline. This role serves as a front line for the organization, responding in real time to low-income individuals and families seeking legal assistance. Paralegals work closely with supervising attorneys to provide support across various legal practice areas.
Responsibilities
- Answering phones and performing eligibility screening
- Entering client information into a database and writing case notes
- Providing advice under the supervision of an attorney
- Scheduling appointments and sending follow-up information to clients
- Providing outside referrals to callers
- Performing off-site intake outside of regular business hours as needed
