Controller

About the role

Notabene is seeking a Controller to own the financial statement audit process, accounting policy, and monthly close for a multi-entity, multi-currency business. You will be the most senior accounting voice in the company, reporting to the VP of Finance, and will focus on building scalable systems and automation to support the company's growth. The role requires a hands-on leader to manage external providers, ensure GAAP compliance, and establish robust accounting controls.

Responsibilities

• Run the readiness assessment and remediation plan for the first external financial statement audit.
• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across multiple legal entities.
• Produce GAAP financial statements, consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and FX translation.
• Write technical accounting positions and memos for revenue recognition, software capitalization, and stock compensation.
• Design and implement internal controls over revenue, cash, and payroll.
• Evaluate and improve the accounting stack with a focus on automation and agentic tooling.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager at a venture-backed company
• Track record of taking a company through a first external audit
• Experience with month-end close ownership across two or more legal entities in different currencies
• Experience developing a small team or a single direct report
