Software Engineer - Python and Data – Assistant Vice President

About the role

Citi's Markets Technology group is seeking a skilled Software Python & Data Engineer to help engineer high-throughput Regulatory Controls and Market Surveillance Platforms. In this hands-on role, you will design, code, and optimize scalable Python backend services and data pipelines that process large volumes of financial market data. You will collaborate with trading desks, risk managers, and compliance teams to deliver automated control frameworks and apply modern innovations to strengthen operational resilience.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-throughput Python backend services and SQL pipelines to ingest and process large volumes of financial market data.
• Translate regulatory mandates and market surveillance policies into reliable, deterministic control algorithms and automated surveillance components.
• Collaborate with trading desks, risk managers, and compliance stakeholders to support the modeling of trade lifecycles, order workflows and multi-asset risk analytics.
• Perform application profiling, database tuning, and SQL query optimization to reduce bottlenecks, minimize latency and improve throughput.
• Contribute to Generative AI-assisted solutions and automation patterns that reduce manual operational activities and streamline control testing workflows.
• Participate in architectural discussions, system design reviews and modern CI/CD practices using GitHub and Jira.
• Apply engineering best practices, take part in peer code reviews, follow testing standards and support knowledge sharing within the team.
• Ensure technical deliverables adhere to Citi engineering policies, enterprise security standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
