About the role
The Relationship Director leads complex and high-value SME borrower relationships with a focus on sponsor-backed leveraged and acquisition finance. This role involves managing portfolio performance, structuring transactions, and providing leadership and coaching to junior team members. The position requires mature credit judgement and the ability to drive commercial value while maintaining strong client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Own, lead and strategically manage a portfolio of high-value, complex borrowers, focusing on sponsor-backed leveraged/acquisition finance.
- Maintain regular, senior-level communication with borrowers, sponsors, advisers and management teams to strengthen long-term relationships.
- Take full accountability for portfolio compliance, including covenant testing, reporting accuracy, and early identification of risks.
- Lead all borrower in-life events, including forbearance, restructures, covenant resets, and negotiations.
- Structure transactions, draft term sheets, prepare credit papers and present recommendations to the Investment Committee.
- Line manage Associate Directors and Portfolio Managers, providing guidance and supporting their development.
