About the role
The Head of Monitoring and Control will lead the architecture, design, and integration of facility-wide monitoring and control systems for the Alpha stellarator. This role involves moving away from legacy industrial control paradigms toward a fully integrated control and observability platform. The successful candidate will oversee mission control software, facility data platforms, and functional safety strategies while managing physical infrastructure integration.
Responsibilities
- Specify mission control and supervisory software including telemetry pipelines and live monitoring stacks.
- Design, deploy, and scale facility compute hardware and software data platforms for high-speed ingestion and streaming.
- Define the device-wide technical strategy for functional safety in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Partner with facility teams to ensure infrastructure supports I&C architecture under harsh radiation and magnetic field constraints.
- Identify R&D opportunities for control and automation hardware and co-design with external vendors.
- Establish hardware and software interface standards across subsystems.
