Controller

About the role

Notabene is seeking a Controller to own the financial close, accounting policy, and the company's first external financial statement audit. You will be the most senior accounting voice in the company, reporting to the VP of Finance, and will be responsible for managing multi-entity, multi-currency accounting processes. The role focuses on raising the standard of documentation, implementing automation, and ensuring compliance as the business scales.

Responsibilities

• Run the readiness assessment, remediation plan, and auditor relationship for the first external audit.
• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across multiple legal entities.
• Produce GAAP financial statements, consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and FX translation.
• Write technical accounting positions and memos for revenue models and software capitalization.
• Design and implement controls over revenue, cash, procure to pay, and payroll.
• Evaluate and improve the accounting stack with a focus on automation and agentic tooling.
• Manage AR, collections, AP, and payroll accounting while coordinating with external tax advisers.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager at a venture-backed company
• Track record of taking a company through a first external audit
• Experience with month-end close across two or more legal entities in different currencies
• Experience developing a small team or a single direct report
